On 20 April 2013, an earthquake registering a magnitude of 7 happened in Lushan County of Ya’an City in Sichuan Province. 120,383.8 RMB was raised by 1,010 people in one day.

Devoting Love to Poverty Alleviation

According to Opinions on Further Establishing and Improving the Long-term Mechanism of Full Staff Participation in Poverty Alleviation (CNPC Party Committee [2009] 124) and Notice on Deploying Company's Activities of Contributing Love to Poverty Alleviation (CNPC No. 1, 2010), CEI party committee established leading group of "Donation for Poverty Alleviation". From 12 January to 18 January 2010, the group launched“Donation for Poverty Alleviation, 689 employees raising 100,456 RMB under the principle of voluntary donation and full participation.

Donation to Wenchuan Earthquake

In May 2008, CEI organized 352 party members raising 173,950 RMB as “special party membership fee” after the Wenchuan Earthquake, in the meanwhile, 948 employees raised 128,196 RMB. On 14 October 2008, in the donation of clothes and quilts to earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan, 369 employees donated 139 new quilts, 10 blankets, 210 cotton-padded coats, 262 sweaters, 17 sweatshirts, and 101 other clothes, totaling 751 items equivalent to 37,550 RMB.

Donation to Victims in Hostage Incident in Sudan

In 2008, 9 employees from our brotherly companies were kidnapped by local armed force. During rescue operation, 5 of them were brutally killed. CEI organized 615 employees to donate 32,105 RMB to victims on 7 November, 2008 to send our condolences to those bereaved families.

On February 2008, some southern areas suffered from hazardous ice rain. The Party committee and trade union of CEI launched a donation, raising 35,081 RMB from 727 employees.

Donation to Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami

On 26 December in 2004，a huge undersea earthquake , registering a magnitude of 9, with an epicentre off the west coast of northern Sumatra, triggered a tsunami. This disaster affected countries as far as Oman in the Persian Gulf, Somalia on the east coast of Africa, Mauritius and Reunion, and etc, causing huge casualties and property losses. On 7, January 2005, 99 CEI employees donated 6,980 RMB to the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami.
